Head to one of the most famous National Parks in country – the Kaziranga National Park. With exceedingly diverse and scenic natural surroundings, Kaziranga National Park sets on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra river in north eastern state of India, Assam. Known for the highest population of the one horned rhinoceroses, Kaziranga is at once aesthetic and powerful. Once again the park is seeing the revival after many years of neglect. The park ( also as a UNESCO World Heritage Site), which spreads 400 sq kms in the flood plains of Brahmaputra, is a favorite haunt among the wildlife enthusiasts.

What to See :

Flora :

Kaziranga is one of the most conserved forest place in the world. Its vast Savannah grasslands and hills have made it a favorite for scenic beauty. The flora of Kaziranga mainly comprises of three types : alluvial flooded grasslands of tall thick elephant grass, tropical wet evergreen forests and tropical semi-evergreen forests. But, the main characteristics of flora in Kaziranga are the dense and tall elephant grass intermixed by small swamplands left behind by the receding floodwaters of the river Brahmaputra.

Fauna :

The Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary is home to the great one horned Indian Rhino. The area was declared a game reserve in 1908 to save rare and endangered specie one-horned rhinos. The total population of these rhinos in the park goes upto 900 in number. Other major wild attractions include a large population of Indian elephants, Indian Bison, Swamp Deer , Hog Deer, Sloth Bears, Tigers, Leopard Cats, Jungle Cats, Otters, Hog Badgers, Capped Langurs, Hoolock Gibbons, Wild Boar, Jackal, Wild Buffalo, Pythons, Monitor Lizards, etc. Some other animal found here are barking deer, Sambar, golden Langurs, Slow Loris, pygmy hog, capped langur and bears.

What to Do :

Elephant Safari :

Elephant safari is perhaps the best way to discover Kaziranga National Park. But make sure that book the tour in advance, as you will be leaving for the ride in the early hours of the dawn. Hire Mahouts who will take you deep inside the jungle. These elephant riders are your best friends in the 2 hour ride, as they are trained and can provide you better insight of the jungle. Kaziranga is the world of one horned rhinos, they are the rulers here and you are the guest. So the very idea of passing through the herds of one horned rhinos can stir you for a moment. Apart from one horned rhinos, you will have chances to witness other wild at the close quarters.

Birding :

Tour to Kaziranga National park assure you that you come to acquaint with hundreds of species of bird. Carry the pair of binoculars and spot the endangered species of beautiful and exotic birds. There are over 300 species of birds at Kaziranga National Park that includes Swamp Partridge, White-cheeked Partridge, Blue-breasted Quail, Red Junglefowl, Black Kite, Brahminy Kite, Black-Shouldered Kite, Fulvous Whistling-duck, Himalayan Griffon, Grey-Headed Fishing Eagle, Greater White-fronted Goose, Bar-headed Goose, Grey Peacock Pheasant, Pallas's Fishing Eagle, Rose-breasted Parakeet, Oriental Honey Buzzard, White Tailed Eagle and many more.

Entertainment :

During the night you will have greater opportunity to enjoy the bonfire with your companion while wining and dancing.
