On arrival of spring season, everybody gets delighted for the huge celebrations. Holi in Mathura and Vrindavana is famous for its unique way of celebrating the festival. Popularly known as Lathmar holi, the spirit of festivity is high among the people. It is celebrated in Barsana, a small village tucked at a distance of 15 km from Vrindavan. This is a birth place of Lord Krishna and the trend of playing holi was started by him. He use to play pranks with Radha and other Gopis.
In Barsana young females and women welcome the colorful festival with stout sticks. Women take a sweet revenge of the pranks played by Lord Krishna. Men try to put a flag on the temple dedicated to Radha. As they are well aware about the situation, so they come fully padded, carrying shields to protect themselves. Women beating men is an interesting view. The whole ambiance is filled with the loud sounds produced by the stick hammering those shields.
Once the women are tired, the game comes to an end. And now its men turn. They reciprocate by invading the village and drench the women folk with colors of palash and kesudo. Every individual have great fun during this special occasion, leaving behind all their worries and tensions.
